Phoebe, the Philo phenomene

2020... The big come back?
God Save
Phoebe!

She raised the profile of the Paddington bag to “the most desirable accessory in fashion history,” and made us fall in loved with the oversized coat and flat mules with fur. Phoebe Philo is always where you don’t expect her: born in Paris and raised in London, the designer graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins, joined her friend Stella McCartney at Chloé before reaching her peak at Celine.

Retired from catwalk collections since 2017, Anna Wintour calls for the return of the iconic Phoebe Philo. We’ll give you all the reasons to call for her come back!

  • Our wardrobe needs timeless pieces: For more than two decades, the British designer has created a wardrobe of strong, current and yet timeless pieces: floral blouses, dresses with geometric lines, tartan coats, lounge wear and monochrome looks. Pieces that you never tire of and that, like good wine, mature over time…
  • The world is sorely lacking in subtlety: What’s the secret of the Philo style? Surprise without ever shocking. The designer has long understood that subtlety says much more than extravagance: Phoebe Philo does not break the rules, she offers her own set.
  • She designs clothes with the people who wear them in mind: At both Chloé and Celine, Phoebe Philo has combined fashion and comfort. With the swish of her pencil her lined mules challenge the chicness of high heeled stiletto and her loose blouses dethrone the bustiers clinging on to their grip on sensuality. A wife and mother, Phoebe Philo reimagines relaxed and elegant figures.
  • She’s a team player:Phoebe Philo is far from being a diva. Away from the cameras, she greets Stan Smith at the end of her fashion shows, not looking for the spotlight. With her fight on the ground and her head in the clouds (her inspiration is divine!), she cherishes her teams and takes stress out of her workshops by working at a pace which looks after her little hands.
  • She’s created our dream trousers: During her reign at Celine, Phoebe Philo restored a sense of nobility to wide leg trousers. Worn with a men’s shirt during the day, a turtleneck in winter, a silk camisole and a tuxedo jacket: the wide leg trousers are a chameleon which adapts to our desires.

After shining bright at Chloé and Celine, is it time for Phoebe Philo to draw attention to her own name? Rumours suggest that the designer could be close to launching her eponymous brand in keeping with her Philo(sophy): modern and minimalist fashion.

God Save
Phoebe!
