La Faïencerie de Gien, founded in 1821 in Gien in the Loire Valley, is a jewel of French decorative arts, deeply rooted in its region and recognised throughout the world. It made its name in the 19th century by creating tableware for the great aristocratic families of Europe. It also produced some beautiful pieces, such as the tiles for the Paris metro and the tableware for the Orient Express, which cemented its reputation. Ultimately, it is its two centuries of expertise and the exceptional quality of its earthenware that make Gien so outstanding.
