Although he dreamed of becoming a painter, Franco Moschino ultimately succumbed to the world of fashion. To pay for his studies at the Milan Academy of Fine Arts, the young man worked as an illustrator and then became an assistant to Gianni Versace. In 1983, he launched his first eponymous collection, which was an immediate success. The designer never stopped parodying couture, mixing prints and subverting pop culture symbols. For more than forty years, Moschino has embodied this fashion style marked by humour, derision and panache.
